Arunachal Pradesh has seen a sporadic rise in cases of online financial fraud in recent times. To address the growing menace, the Cyber Cell under SIT has started the “Citizen Financial Cyber Frauds Reporting & Management System” at Arunachal Pradesh Police, Cyber Cell (SIT) PHQ, Itanagar.
The Cyber helpline number is 155260, where citizens can register their complaints.
Individuals must act promptly and seek assistance in case of any cyber-related issues. The helpline handles complaints and provides guidance on safeguarding personal information and preventing online threats. Citizens are encouraged to report instances of cyberbullying, identity theft, and online scams.
It is crucial to stay informed about digital safety practices and utilize resources available through this helpline to ensure a secure online environment. Remember, being proactive and reporting incidents can help authorities take necessary actions against cybercriminals, ultimately contributing to a safer digital space.
The System has so far received 25 online complaints from various locations of Arunachal Pradesh related to online financial fraud, and a total amount of Rs 1,41,917 (one lakh forty-one thousand nine hundred seventeen) only has been saved and refunded to various complainants, informed SP(SIT) Rohit Rajbir Singh.
Cautioning the public, he further added that online fraudsters have adopted a modus operandi whereby they make a call to someone’s mobile number and entice them with the best offer on expensive mobiles or by saying, “You won a car,” for which the fraudster asks for a deposit to clear the prize and deliver gifts to the customer.
Unaware of the fraudulent tactics, naive customers fall into the fraudster’s trap and lose their hard-earned money.
He further appealed to all the citizens of Arunachal Pradesh not to respond to such fraud messages and calls. If such an offence occurs, it should be reported to the Citizen Financial Cyber Frauds Reporting & Management System immediately without further delay by calling the Cyber helpline number 155260.
Moreover, he urged the public to remain vigilant and educate themselves about the signs of financial scams. Fraudsters often use sophisticated strategies to manipulate unsuspecting individuals, promising quick returns or exclusive offers that seem too good to be true.
He emphasized the importance of verifying the authenticity of any communication related to financial transactions. Individuals should consult with family members or financial experts before making any decisions if in doubt.
In addition, he recommended that citizens regularly monitor their bank statements and report any suspicious activity to their respective banks without hesitation. Awareness and prompt action can significantly reduce the risk of falling victim to such deceitful schemes.
Furthermore, community awareness programs and workshops are being organized to educate citizens about cybersecurity and the preventive measures they can take. This collective effort aims to create a more informed society that can effectively resist and report fraudulent activities.
Let us work together to safeguard our hard-earned money and ensure Arunachal Pradesh becomes a fortress against financial cyber crimes.
