To reinforce the deception, the caller referenced mutual acquaintances, thereby gaining Radhakrishnan’s trust.
As the call progressed, the faux colleague urgently requested Rs 40,000, citing a medical emergency involving a relative. Moved by the plea, Radhakrishnan transferred the money. The scammer then made a further demand for Rs 35,000, arousing Radhakrishnan’s suspicion. He contacted his actual former colleague, only to discover the call was fraudulent. Subsequently, the victim reported the scam to the police.
